Here is a collection of nonfiction books I find interesting as an atheist and I suspect will also be appreciated by other non-believers. I have not yet read all of these, but I plan to read every last one - time permitting. I will update the list as I come across more books that I feel should be included.
This is an excellent speech by Sam Harris where he discusses problems of religious faith. This lecture was given at the New York Society for Ethical Culture on Nov 16, 2005; aired on C-Span2's "Book TV."
This is the brilliant opening statement that Christopher Hitchens gave in a religion vs. atheism debate with Alister McGrath on October 11, 2007.
Interview with Richard Dawkins at the Edinburgh International Book Festival on Monday, August 11, 2008. Dawkins discusses being accused of believing in "little green men," the possibility of life on other planets and the probability of God.
Conducted by Paula Kirby.
Here is another tasteless production. What is the difference between a creationist and a mentally disabled person? One of them cannot help being retarded. I apologize to the mentally handicapped for associating them with those creationists.
Here is an excerpt of one of Richard Dawkins' lectures where he uses two powerful anecdotes to very clearly show the contrast in the faith and doubt in science and the unwavering faith in religion.
On the 30th of September 2007, Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens sat down for a first-of-its-kind, unmoderated 2-hour discussion, convened by RDFRS and filmed by Josh Timonen. All four authors have recently received a large amount of media attention for their writings against religion - some positive, and some negative. In this conversation the group trades stories of the public's reaction to their recent books, their unexpected successes, criticisms and common misrepresentations. They discuss the tough questions about religion that face to world today, and propose new strategies for going forward.
The bible is right because the bible says so. How does the bible know it's right? Because the bible says so. Circular logic anyone?
We found our youngest cat abandoned next to a dumpster only a few days old with his eyes still closed and very near death. Here are a few pictures of him trying to find the god that left him to die. Like a good little atheist kitty, he has his priorities and decides sleep is much more important. (lolcat version at the bottom!)
