Zeitgeist documentary - Part 1 on Religion
This is a video that every Christian and atheist alike should watch. There are many people on both sides of the argument posting lies and deceit online regarding this movie. I suggest as with everything, that if this movie catches your attention, that you personally do the research into its claims to verify FOR YOURSELF what is presented truthfully. For the most part, its a good idea to keep away from biased sites when doing research. Its not uncommon for belief-targeted sites to manipulate the data they present.
I have already taken a look at one of the Christian debunking pages that, on the surface, quite throughly dismissed every bit of information in this movie with claims of propaganda. Within 20 minutes of basic research, I in turn debunked their mis-information for 5 of the first claims made using actual historical data that they claimed was non existent. At a later time I will spend more time for research and write a post that will address every counter-claim they have listed and provide irrefutable evidence against their attempt to further deceit the worshipers of Christianity with falsified facts.
About Zeitgeist
This movie orignally came in 3 parts. The videos below are only of the first part that covers religion. If you are interested in the rest of the full movie, do a search on google. The movie was released with lenient distribution rights so it will be easy to find a copy online.
This section of the movie evaluates the historicity of the Bible. In furtherance of the Jesus myth hypothesis, this part argues that the historical Jesus is a literary and astrological hybrid,[6] and that the Bible is based on astrological principles documented by many ancient civilizations, especially pertaining to the movement of the sun through the sky and stars. The film explains how and why early civilizations personified the Sun as the "representative of the unseen Creator or God" and how stars were linked into constellations, the 12 constellations being a place of travel for "God's Sun" and representing "elements of nature that happened during that period of time." This section is also used by the film to show the Pagan origins of the symbol of the Cross.
Horus, the Ancient Egyptian Sun God, is introduced as having a number of attributes in common with Jesus. For instance, the movie claims that Horus was born of a virgin mother, his arrival was proclaimed by a star in the east and upon his birth he was adored by three kings. According to the film, Horus was a child teacher at 12, was baptized at 30, traveled with 12 disciples and performed acts such as healing the sick and walking on water. The relationship between Horus and Set is also discussed.
