Although it is fiction, Night Fall is based around hard evidence and questionable conclusions regarding the tragedy of TWA flight 800, an airliner that exploded off the coast of New York in 1996 killing over 200 passengers. On the fifth anniversary of the crash, former NYPD detective John Corey, now an FBI Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force agent, attends the ceremony with his wife of the same occupation. Having taken part in the investigation, she attends every year in remembrance of those who died. The government concluded that the crash was a result of mechanical failure. Many people knew that was a lie, including his wife.

After having his curiosity aroused by a pushy agent asking questions about his presence, along with a little hinting from his wife, John begins sniffing around the case. He is quickly approached by his bosses and told to stop. Naturally, being a stubborn detective, this only motivates him to dig deeper even if it costs him his career. What he discovers is an elaborate cover up. He has the government backed in the corner and expects to see justice served. Little does he know, the outcome will be far from favorable.

I really liked reading Night Fall, if not for the mind blowing ending, then for the sarcastic crudeness of John Correy. Plenty of swearing, testosterone and rebelling to satisfy any male reader! The only element that I did not like is that, save for the end, the "danger" of the situations really did not make a connection to me. They seemed more like paranoid overreactions of the character rather than any actual danger.

As I closed in towards the ending, being mindful of the storyline timeline, I started getting anxious wondering how exactly the date I knew was coming would play in. I am of course talking about 9/11/01. With every paragraph inching forward, I grew more and more aware that somehow the trade center attacks were to play a critical part. Even having that foresight, as I finished the last page and slowly closed the book, I couldn't help but to shockingly reply simply with "holy shit!"
