Irreducible complexity of bacterial flagellum debunked
Posted On Oct 05, 2008 at 9:48 pm
The seemingly irreducible complexity of the flagella of bacteria is one of the trophy arguments carried by creationists everywhere. Below I present to you two short videos that will give you an quick introduction to why this argument is wrong, followed by some additional links that are very informative. Ignorance is not proof of anything - don't let it be your source of argument.

While I wish this were true, it is not.
The first definition of "irreducible complexity" is not used any more. Behe (and colleagues I imagine) have re-worked the definition so that it is now "A system is irreducibly complex if there is no step by step path to go from a simpler system to the more end result."
You have to admit, this is a lot harder to debunk than the original definition, where ALL of the original Behe examples were shown to be reducible.

And the organism which matches the re worked definition is???

To Travis,
And the organism which matches the re worked definition is???

All of the progressive small steps that you show at the beginning of construction do nothing to propel the bacteria. The flagellum can only work when it is fully assembled. While it is under construction it cannot propel itself. You raise more questions than answers. Why would construction start when it would produce no advantage or purpose for the organism?

Right on Bro! The fact that perhaps one or two of the components may have existed in precursor does nothing to explain that the myriad of components would keep building upon each other when at each new step no viable functional thing exists that improves its existence. How many stairs would somebody climb without ever arriving at some destination that was worthwhile. I mean, at some point, don't you die of exhaustion and starvation . . .
