Great quotes: Andy Rooney, Prophets are to be trusted as reporters
I came across this great quote while reading Daniel Dennett's Breaking The Spell: Religion as a natural phenomenon. Andy Rooney compares prophets of god such as Moses and Joseph Smith to reporters who will do anything to get a story. This quote is not only humorous, but it also brings up a very valid point of the claims made by people who - were they alive to make such claims in our modern world - would be treated with mental illness.
Those to whom his word was revealed were always alone in some remote place, like Moses. There wasn't usually anyone else around when Mohammed got the word, either. Mormon Joseph Smith and Christian Scientist, Mary Baker Eddy, had exclusive audiences with God. We have to trust them as reporters - and you know how reporters are. They'll do anything for a story. - Andy Rooney

HAHA, great point he does have.
Does Religious outragous claims make it different from when Outragous Scientific claims are made. I mean we should all know our history, and just remember what happen when, those who said the earth wasn't the center of universe, or it wasn't flat etc...
Should it make a difference? did it?

All outrageous claims should be looked at with skepticism which is why I LOVE science. If a scientist makes a claim, it goes through the peer review process where its open for the research and skepticism of other scientists. The only thing as great for a scientist as making a huge discovery, is proving another huge discovery wrong. You do not get that kind of competitive scrutiny in religion.
If someone makes a claim that God talks to him, we are expected to treat it with respect and not dare question him. If a scientist makes a claim that he found an invincible organism, you better believe theres going to be scientists all around the world trying to prove him wrong.
Atheism is starting to finally take root. More and more people are beginning to ask questions and put religion under the microscope, and religious people are getting scared and "offended" because of it. It will not be long before they are no longer the majority. The insane dogmas of religion will finally lose the foothold it's had since the beginning of recorded human history.
It will be a wonderful time when a Priest is viewed the same as a psychic; the cross, a voodoo doll; and the Christian, a cult member.
