As I was going through the news stories fresh off the RSS press, I came across this story that, while originally developed a year ago, made me mad. I have long been one to try and use logic and consideration over personal biases especially when communicating with others online. I have been online for a long time and interacted with many people, and observed countless more. Unfortunately from what I've seen, the internet population consists, by large, of self-absorbed idiots.

I am all for strict harassment laws online, even if it does borderline affect "free speech", and the reason being, is that people are simply too dumb -- too inconsiderate -- and too ignorant to decide for themselves how to act like human beings. People just do not understand the difference between right and wrong anymore; ESPECIALLY when they are behind a computer screen.

When people sit down at the computer, many of them turn into immature, insecure kids. No matter what corner of the internet you visit, you will always find these people that are absolute animals with the way they act and treat others. I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about as its hard NOT to come across these people especially when visiting any community-driven site like youtube.

These people are such failures at life that they pass their time on the internet being "e-Thugs" trying to make themselves feel like they have some worth by attacking, degrading, and trying to hurt others while possessing the same mental capacity and logic of a monkey. These "people" who act like this are usually younger from my observations, but what is even sadder than what the next generation is turning into, is when older people, who are supposable more mature, take on the same mentality. In the news story above, I was appalled when I read that a neighborhood mother was part of the ridiculing that caused a 13 year old girl to kill herself.

Now I'm still young at only 20 years old, but I really fear for where our society is going with the current generation, and how the next will develop. I truly believe that the mentality of the general population has already reached, plateaued, and passed its peak; and it is now on the downhill slope. Whats the cause? I think there are a few ingredients to this, one being technology which is making people lazier and used to getting what they want, when they want. Second, and most importantly, is a decline of discipline due to poor parenting and/or the laws that make it hard for parents to properly raise their kids. It seems you look at your kid the wrong way now-days and they can file a complaint with the police.
