Logitech Experience

Logitech RAJ56A For the better part of 10 years I've used Logitech keyboards and mice almost exclusively because ive always preferred the way they feel and look. They typically last me at least a year before the wear and tear of daily use starts to take affect and they are replaced with new ones.

I have only used a cordless setup once before when they first started getting popular a few years back and I quickly ditched it due to slow response and having to always re-sync with the receiver. Well, I decided to give wireless another try to clear up my desktop of extra wires, and this is my review of the Logitech RAJ56A Internet Pro Keyboard/Mouse combo.

Design

I have always liked the style of black logitech keyboards, and I always found their wrist-support the most comfortable for the way i type. The style on this particular keyboard is slightly different than that of what ive been used for many years. First thing i noticed, is the wrist support has been redesigned. It does indeed look nicer, but it is just not as comfortable as its predecessor. I suppose that is something that can bve gotten used to. The other changes i noticed are that the bumps on J and F keys are not as defined, though that is not a huge issue with me. Also, the windows (super) key has an odd circular emboss around the windows logo. Again, not something that would bother me much. Overall, the keyboard is still stylish and looks neat.

Build Quality

Im hoping that this one is just fluke and not many of their keyboards have this issue, but this keyboard does no sit level. In fact, there is nearly 3/8" play between diagonal corners which I find very annoying. Other than that, the build quality seems just fine (for a $35 keyboard).

Wireless Disappointment

The biggest hope i had for this keyboard turned into the biggest disappointment. I type rather fast, an average of around 70-80WPM when I'm typing pure text and nearly as quick in bursts when programming, and I can do over 100WPM. Typing anything over a guesstimated 30WPM on this keyboard causes a noticeable lag. At full speed the lag becomes extremely noticeable and make it impossible for immediate error correction as I'm already on the next word before the previous word error is typed to the screen. For this reason alone, this keyboard will be going back to the store in return for a wired Logitech keyboard.

Mouse

The main problem, or rather annoyance, that I noticed with the mouse is that the scroll button is extremely loud during scrolling. I use the middle button a lot and there is no way I could put up with that mouse. The buttons also extend further towards your palm than the old Logitech mouse design, which can also be problematic with accidental clicks depending on how you are used to holding the mouse.

Conclusion

Perhaps next time I will give a bluetooth-based wireless keyboard a try. In the meantime, Im going back to a wired setup.
