So your ready to take out a second mortgage, sell your first born child, and live off ramen noodles for the rest of your life in order to afford the new mac pro, eh? Well here is a little bit of advice that can save you THOUSANDS of dollars on your new 8-core XEON-based powerhouse while getting a few extras for free at the same time.

Apple has a special membership called the Apple Developer Connection that has several benefits for members including free Leopard Server, specialized support, and most importantly: Hardware Discounts!

How it works

The Apple Developer Connection costs $499 per year and offers excellent hardware discounts, which can total up to over $2500 for a fully configured mac pro with 32gb RAM, or $1000 for a mild build in the $5000 range. The math is simple, spend $500, save $1000-$2500. Which in essence means you save $500-$2000+ on your purchase, plus get free development tools, support, and server software. Its a win-win situation!
