Nov 06, 2008 The most under-appreciated punctuation mark: The semicolon

The most under-appreciated punctuation mark: The semicolon Every since I was a young kid in grade-school, I have always had a preference of complex sentence structures instead of the more predominant "lets use a period as often as we can" ideology. In my mind, a period is far too sharp of a punctuation for the separation of many clauses that, while technically stand independently, are much more pleasant to read when they are punctuated as being relative to each other.

Free Immigration: Moral and Practical by Arthur Lechtholz-Zey Any nation that claims to protect individual rights--the rights to life, liberty, and property--cannot properly have anything but an open border policy with regard to immigration. To even have the classification "illegal immigrant" is to maintain that the government may classify individuals as criminals absent those individuals committing any objective crimes.

Oct 23, 2008 History and evidence for human evolution

History and evidence for human evolution Did humans evolve from apes or were we created as-is with a superiority to all other organisms? A good portion of the uneducated United States public reject evolution without fully understanding how it works, let alone being aware of the facts that back it up. This is truly sad because evolution is ONE of the MOST IMPORTANT scientific advances of understanding - EVER.

Oct 22, 2008 Two simulations of evolution making seemingly improbable and complex transitions

Two simulations of evolution making seemingly improbable and complex transitions Here is a two-part video that has two different kinds of evolutionary simulations. You have to remember that even though evolution does not have a final design in mind for what organisms should look like over time, it does indeed have a goal. That goal is to survive and reproduce most efficiently in the current environment. The variables that effect survival and reproduction in our world are completely dynamic and environmental. The pressures of surviving are vastly different in the Sahara desert than they are in Antarctica. This is a very important concept to understand in order to fully appreciate and understand evolution.

Oct 21, 2008 A primer in abiogenesis - the origin of life often confused with evolution

A primer in abiogenesis - the origin of life often confused with evolution In the natural sciences, abiogenesis, or origin of life, is the study of how life on Earth emerged from inanimate organic and inorganic molecules. Many people mix up abiogensis with evolution (ironically, its those same people who dont know squat about evolution that claim they know better than 150 years of scientists.) Here are three great videos that will explain to you what abiogensis is, how it could have happened, and why creationist arguments against it are wrong.

Oct 21, 2008 Shorthand PHP IF statement without the else notation

Shorthand PHP IF statement without the else notation In an earlier post I explained how to do Ternary shorthand if/else statements in PHP. One of the major benefits of using a shorthand if/else statement is that you can use it inline with a string. But what if you only need to do in inline if statement, without the else?

Oct 19, 2008 How to fix var-use-before-def-global PHP5 error within included files

How to fix var-use-before-def-global PHP5 error within included files If you make use of the code analyzer available in many modern IDE environments when coding strictly to PHP5 standards, you may have noticed that you will get errors thrown at you for using variables before they are declared in included files. For example, lets say you have two files, header.php and index.php.

Oct 13, 2008 How would an alien describe humans in 4 minutes?

How would an alien describe humans in 4 minutes? There are billions of galaxies in the observable universe. And each of them contain hundreds of billions of stars. In one of these galaxies, orbiting one of these stars, lies a little blue planet. This planet is run, by a bunch of monkeys... Dance monkeys dance!

Oct 13, 2008 God is 9090 times more evil than Hitler

God is 9090 times more evil than Hitler Many people calculate Hitler's evilness by the massive number of deaths he was responsible for. When Eve ate an apple, God went psycho and damned all her offspring to die. It's estimated that there have been approximately 100 billion human births since the beginning of time -- all of them are dead and dying because god was angry at Eve for eating an apple. Bravo God, you really know how to show your love.
